A great sporting goods store that beats most bike stores . I’ve been going to McPhails for bikes, parts , and mostly service for 30 yrs. Their mechanics , especially Mike , are second to none. Always a perfect job . Done right the first time , and always fair pricing. Mcphails is the real deal.
I have bought at least 7 of the "THREE" bikes I own ( incase my wife sees this - the rest of course left to me as orphans on my doorstep.....) from McPhails over the past 20years. Jordan and the team at McPhails have consistently looked after me over that time and many many of my riding friends and family. Downstairs - where the "after care" happens.... There is seemingly NO issue, no phantom creak, no - "I thought I'd just adjust in myself, no "why'd THAT happen" that "Dr. Watts" aka Mike B and the team - cannot make "go away!" Honestly from minor issues to, we gotta start over disasters, not only do they understand the love I have for riding, they "get it" when it comes to timing and turn around like NO other! From the bottom of my bracket - thank you and Tailwinds to you all! John Swarbrick and Family
The staff is quite friendly and helpful. When is comes down to quoting and price it is disappointing. I was quoted $75 to $150 on the top end. When I came to pick up the bill was $250… I reminded them the top end quote was $150. They said they would help me out by charging $200. Work done looked good, but do not trust them for price..
Phenomenal customer service! Mike and the McPhail’s team went out of their way to help us. We purchased a Specialized eMTB from a store downtown Toronto as it was the last one of an outgoing model in my wife’s size in all of Ontario. After returning home to KW, we discovered an issue that needed to be fixed under warranty. McPhail’s went above and beyond to look at the bike literally right away and got the new part on order. They also installed the new part the same day it arrived which is really awesome. Everyone we spoke to in store and on the phone were super friendly and helpful. We’re new to the MTB sport and will definitely be working with McPhail’s for everything going forward. Thanks so much!
I bought a Felt endurance road bike from McPhail's in May and brought it back to the shop after noticing one wheel hub had some play. Their Head Mechanic said the issue was cheap bearings and that he replaced it with a better component. However, after just one ride that wheel was making a very noticeable grinding noise. Curious, I took off the end cap to discover what had been installed was Max 30 bearings designed for suspension pivots in a mountain bike, which is entirely unsuitable for the wheel of an endurance road bike. . Even when the repair was initially done, the mechanic was dismissive and wouldn't discuss any specifics about the repair. I found this odd as I wasn't being accusatory, but rather just interested to know because I have worked in a bicycle repair shop myself and am an avid cyclist. I am disappointed in the lack of transparency and accountability. This was an expensive, brand new bike that should not have had issues immediately - and definitely not a new problem created by the shop's Head Mechanic in attempting to fix the first. An experienced mechanic should know that was not a suitable replacement part and would fail quickly. Probably best to use the ABEC bearings as recommended for wheel hubs ! I’ve had great dealings with Jordan and Pete in the past… just a little frustrated about the Mechanics brush off .
I had really mixed experience with the shop. I live within 10 min walking of it so it is my go-to place for spare parts and gears for my family bikes. Multiple times I found there needed accessories for a good price and cheerful consultants providing competent help. On the other hand some accessories like bike bags are way too expensive there. Many types of spare parts like tires, gear shifters, etc. are either missing or hard to get help with. I was surprised to discover that sometimes the big shops like SportCheck may be more helpful. This shop has a great potential and I really wish it success and the best of luck. I hope this feedback will help to improve the service and get more happy customers.
100 years of Family tradition in KW still continues to deliver! I drive passing all Bicycle stores(3 stores) in Kitchener, Waterloo area to McPhail's (geographically the last Bike/ski store from where I live). I have bought both my Bicycles from Mcphail's and very satisfied with the purchase & services. I have a hard time getting the right Bike to fit as for my height...gauranteed McPhail's staff will fit me to a proper Bicycle without the over-selling. McPhail's has the most knowledgeable, helpful & the nicest staff in any Bicycle/Ski Shop I've been to in KW to GTA. From the Staff to Owners'... they will take their time to understand your needs & pull out any amount of Bikes out for you to try & fit it properly. I don't mind traveling across town to McPhail's because I have confidence in their staff to deliver the constant quality service I always receive from Mcphail's.
