Winston Churchill is probably the best school in Waterloo region. The teachers there are very helpful and welcoming, and all of their classes are well thought. I went to this school until Grade 5 when I went to full time enrichment. This school is a community supporting school, with student that are quite nice. The neighborhood is very friendly. This is the school anyone kid should go to.

My personal experience here (2004-2009) as a child was simply miserable. By the start of 1st grade the school had already accused me of having ADHD, but my pediatrician at the time clearly disproved that. Even with the evidence that went against the school's accusations, the IPRC (basically what the board labels "special" children with) was still held on my school record, which as a result led teachers to deal with me in a "specialized" way, which basically meant separating my desk from the rest and building a wall of corrugated cardboard around it. Sounds completely absurd and almost even comical, right? When I got treated like that, I felt that I truly had serious behavior problems. It is only today that I realized how much of a SELF-FULFILLING PROPHECY it was. I was never special nor had erratic behavior problems (you seriously expect children of that age to behave in accordance to the accepted norms of an institution?), the teachers there simply held a prejudiced attitude towards me, which therefore led me to believe that I was "special". Speaking about prejudiced attitudes, I think it is most befitting to talk about my grade 5 teacher here (let's call her Ms. Maleficent). Ad hominems aside, she was downright racist. She put me and this other Chinese girl in a corner, how can such a school let a teacher do that?? From the way she talked to us and treated us, she clearly held a contemptuous and disdainful attitude towards marginalized peoples like ethnic minorities and people with "ADHD". Of course, attitudes translate to behavior. I recall that she grabbed my binder and threw it across the room because I "wasn't paying attention" (I'm pretty sure I was, she just viewed me a crazed up kid who had ADHD, which I did not have!). Possibly one of the most controversial incidentsso controversial, in fact, that it eventually drove my parents to change schools and move elsewherewas how during recess, Ms. Maleficent intentionally cut the handle of my lunchbag off of the chair that it was fastened onto (the textile handle of my lunchbag had a plastic snap lock buckle). It's hilarious, really. Ms. Maleficent then denied all instances of the accusations put forth to the vandalism of my lunchbag, just to keep her job. The fact that she was the only person inside the classroom during recess just makes this case even more logically conclusive. How pathetic. I'm actually excited to see how "successful" she is right now in life with an attitude like that.Other than Ms. Maleficent, the school in general is a nasty environment for inequality and injustice. I should talk about the time where I got suspended from school simply because my classmates falsely accused me for saying the F-word, which the teacher blindly believed them, whom then the principal blindly believed the teacher. Do I need to say any more? This school's punishment system is flawed and there's no denying that.Simply put, this is the worst school I have ever been to. Staff and teachers here are killjoy pedants with an authoritarian attitude, and do not think critically of their actions. I'm sure WC has considerably changed over these yearsincluding the retirement of the old staff and the addition of new staff, however that does not change the grudge I hold against this school, nor does it help negate the awful and bitter discrimination I was treated here as a child. Do not risk sending your kids here, they are doomed to be subjected to stereotype threats! No critical thinking allowed here!P.S. On a brighter note, I am now currently a university student at WLU studying the social sciences. Bless my sociology and psychology classes for teaching me how to think critically about this flawed and unjust society.
